Greenhorn Placer Mining District Region Sec. 16, T. 10S, R 35E. Where the old miners once mined is a good area to begin the gold search and to remember to respect private property while searching old mining districts in Oregon. The Greenhorn region embraces the eastern part of the Greenhorn Mountain range and embraces all of the small lode sub-districts and are grouped around the old town of Greenhorn. The lode mines occur in a variety of host rocks with veins in greenstone, argillite and serpintinized intrusive rocks. Many of these veins are associated with porphyritic dikes of intermediate to acid composition where the outlying areas host granodiorite of the Greenhorn Batholith. The adjacent water-runs show a high silver-gold bearing occurrence in the ancient placer gravels that make up the flanks of the region.
